Sing for Joy

The theme for choir tour last year was, "Choose joy."  The students and I worked to choose joy in even when we didn't feel like it.  We looked at Romans 15:13 which says, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him."  Our focus was on the fact that God fills us with joy.  Heading into a new school year my aim is to focus on the end of the verse, the fact that we need to trust God, that our joy comes from trusting Him in all circumstances.

As I teach on trusting God, I realized I need to first point to the reason we can trust God, which is His character.  This summer while listening to a sermon the pastor explained that, "your problems may be big to you, but they are not big to God."  So often we see our circumstances and forget to see our greater God.

As I start choir this year my first verse will be, "Sing for Joy...for great in your midst is the Holy one of Israel," Isaiah 12:6.  Great is our God and He is in our midst.   How often do we forget this as we focus on our own lives?  But, when we stop and remember our great God, who dwells with us we realized we always have reason to be joyful.  We can trust God because he is present in our lives.  Whatever we are going through God is already there working.

So, last year we worked to choose joy, this year I hope to help the students trust God because of who He is, that our joy may come from our trust in God's character.  Isaiah says to "sing for joy."  We have reason to sing because we can trust that our God is great and that He is in the midst of all that is going on in and around us.  He is in control, so we can have trust and joy and therefore sing with great confidence - we "sing for joy."
