Friday Chapel

My hope in sharing the Kenyan National Anthem you can join in singing the Swahili rather than just listening to the choir.

How many of you have had a conversation with a Kenyan who tells you about something hard in their lives only to end with "God is good."  This same mentality is reflected in the Kenyan National Anthem.

Mungu is God in the first line.

Baraka is talking about God's blessing. It's nice that Baraka and Blessing both start with B to help us remember its meaning in English

Mlinzi is our defender - pointing to Mungo as our mlinzi.  Tell your neighbor, Mungo is my mlinzi.

Ndugu is a dwelling and Amani means _______ (peace) - Just as the song says, "May we dwell in unity, peace and liberty"  The only way we can ndugu in Amani is if we dwell in God.  It also helps that ndugu emphasizes the D which reminds us it means dwelling.

Ustawi is an overall happiness which comes from God.

Are you catching on? The Kenyan National Anthem points to our blessings, peace and happiness coming from God.  As we live here in Kenya I hope you will live under this Anthem as you sing it each week may it be a reminder to you where our lives come from - E Mungo nguvu yetu - which means?  ___________________(O God of all creation).
