Being a Missionary is Hard

Friends of mine have been missionaries with a people group for three years.  In the grand scheme, three years is not a long time, but when you have spend three years getting to know people and spending time with them on a daily basis three years is enough time to care for each other.

Over those three years there have been no new Christians.  Can you imagine spending everyday with people who don't know Jesus like you do?  Not one of your friends are Christians.  How hard it is to care about people who don't share the knowledge of the most important thing there can be in life.  On top of that is the knowledge that this is the very reason you are with these people, to help point them to the knowledge of Jesus.

My heart hurts for the missionaries who have spent years with a group of people they have come to love and still know they don't know Jesus, which is the most important thing they could ever know in their lives.  As we call out to God of behave of those who don't know Him we trust that He wants them to know Him and live with Him even more than we do, yet it is hard to wait and trust.

My hope comes from continued prayer.  I pray for God to open the eyes and hearts of more that they may desire Him.  I pray for wisdom for the missionaries working among those who don't yet know that they may have wisdom to know how to show who God is to those around them.  I pray for trust and patients for each missionary, that they may see God working to bring more to himself and for encouragement that He is working out His plan to grow His kingdom.
