God is good
We have record amounts of rain here in Kijabi. As we talk about it here on campus it's easy to complain about the fact that the ground never has time to dry out, that we have to hang out laundry in the house, that we may not have hot water for a shower, that the electricity goes out more often, or that we don't have central heat in our houses so we are cold at night.
But, then we remember those living around us. This morning I had the chance to ask the Kenyan man (who takes care of the music building) about the rain. What he said surprised me. As he often does he taught me a little Swahili saying, "Mvua nyingi - a lot of rain." I asked if it was too much rain for his garden. He explained that the potatoes were gone, but that the maize (corn) was still growing little by little. What was even more surprising was the next Swahili phrase he taught me, "Mungu nemwema - God is good." Even after saying that his potato crop was gone he still praised God for the maize that was growing. I have much to learn from this kind of faith.

It's almost as if the rain is wiping the green off the leaves.
