#Naomisvillage

I had heard about the orphanage, Naomi's Village, because the RVA students occasionally visit to hang out with the kids living on the campus.  That being said, I didn't know much about it. Today I had the opportunity to visit myself.  Naomi's Village was started by a former RVA staff member nearly 10 years ago.  It is now run by Kenyans, but it is sponsored by people in the U.S.

10 years ago there were not many orphanages in Kenya.  I learned this from one of the RVA grads. who was visiting from the States as part of the group that I joined today.  It is amazing to see how many orphanages there in Kenya now.   Whether run soli by Kenyans or supported from the States, its great to see Kenyans coming together to support the less-fortunate children.  I have yet to learn whether Kenya works with families to reunite them or help them raise their children.  I pray this is also a priority.

Naomi's Village is home to less than 50 kids from infant through high school.  On the property there are dormitories, a garden, a cafeteria, and places to play.  It was wonderful to talk to the older kids as they shared the understanding for responsibility to the younger ones and to each other.  The students go to school together off campus at a school build for them and other village kids.  It too is sponsored by people from the U.S.  The staff members at both are Kenyans, they take turns with 3 days on and 3 days off, staying with the children and taking care of them together.  I was amazed at how nice the buildings are, how big the garden is, the green grass, the growing shade trees, and even the sidewalks all around the campus.  There were things that were nicer than at RVA.

As we spent time with the kids, chatted with the adults and enjoyed time together it was wonderful to share the same love for Jesus and His children.

Now having visited a few different locations in Kenya (whether Gertrude's Children Hospital, Nymbani for children with aids, Le Pic boarding school, or the Internally Displaced Person's Camp), it is always a joy to see God's work through His people for His people.
