The Power of the Cross

While reading the lyrics of this well know song by the Gettys I was reminded of my recent travels. My trip was all about what I saw, taking in all the famous monuments and holding them in my memory.  In the same way, the lyrics of this song paint a picture of a famous scene, the death of Jesus on the cross.  Although, I was not there and can't view the event in person, the words help to transport me to this important time, the point in which Jesus gave his very life for mine.  I hope you can read the words while imagining the scene, that your heart may be brought to worship as a result.

Oh to see the dawn of the darkest day
Christ on the road to Calvary
Tried by sinful men, torn and beaten then nailed to a cross of wood.

Now the daylight flees, now the ground beneath quakes as its Maker bows his head.
Curtain torn in two, dead are raised to life.
"Finished" the victory cry!

Oh to see my name written in the wounds
For through your suffering I am free!
Death is crushed to death, life is mine to live.
Won through your selfless love.

This the power of the cross.  Christ became sin for us
Took the blame, he took the blame, bore the wrath
We stand forgiven at the cross

This the power of the cross.  Song of God slain for us!
What a name, what a cost! We stand forgiven, at the cross

The more I thought about my trip and this song I was reminded of the worship service God gave me in the Sistine Chapel.  It was amazing to stare at Biblical scenes painted with such creativity while listening to worship music.  It brought me to glory.  With that thought in mind I wanted to give you the opportunity to enter into a moment of worship through the listening of this song...
