Flag Raising Chapel Talk

I got excited to share what I learned about the Kenyan National Anthem and it's correlation to the Lord's Prayer, but also know that it's not really a chapel talk because there isn't really an action plan attached, it's only cool info.  So, it got me to thinking about the purpose of the Kenyan National Anthem.  It seems to me that the Kenyan National Anthem is like a mantra for the country, which led me to thinking about mantras we may have for our lives.  This lead me to the idea of "self-talk."  A mantra is the thing we say to ourselves to encourage and motivate us.  But the reality is, we say a lot of things to ourselves. For example...

"I look good."  "I feel horrible today"
"I've got this" "I can't do this"
"I don't feel like it"  "Let''s go, I'm excited"

This drove me to Scripture to look for mantras for everyday self talk...

Let me paraphrase what I found in Psalm 118: 24, "The Lord will do it this very day, let me rejoice today and be glad."

Or this one from Isaiah 41:10, "God will strengthen me, God will help me, God will hold me up..."

It was a lot of fun to have a few of my Titchies help me explain the relations to the Lord's prayer on Friday and then to be real with the school about needing Scriptural "self talk."  I'm not going to lie, it really made me think the rest of the days and now this weekend as I work to put on the Christmas Program Sunday.  Do I believe God's got this?

  1. Reminds me we are blessed as we continue to: "Let the --word of Christ dwell in you richly-- in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord." (Col.3:16) His Word makes us sing in our hearts to Him! Thank you for the love you put into your teaching your students the best Way.💕
