Adore Him, Emmanuel
When you start picking Christmas songs in September, it's hard to get into the traditional Christmas music. Plus, when our concert is before American Thanksgiving, my mind was going in a different direction with the first term music. Last year when we did the first term concert as all Christmas music then had American Thanksgiving, it really through off the Christmas celebration for me, and others. So, when the band director came up with the theme, "Thanksgiving, Praise, and Adoration" for the concert, I was on board. I was able to pick Christmas songs with a little less of the traditional Christmas feel in order to preserve the order of celebration. That's where this song comes. Then, under the heading "Adore" we find the following words.
Come worship Him
Come and adore Jesus
King of Heaven
Adore Him, Christ the Lord
Adore Him, Emmanuel
God with us
Tiny Infant King
Holy One of Israel
Savior of the World
Our praises now we bring
The world rejoices at His birth
for God has sent His Son to earth
Give Him glory, honor and praises
Adore Him, Emmanuel
Come adore Him, Emmanuel
Come adore the Lord Jesus Christ
He is the King of Heaven
Adore Him, Christ the Lord
Adore Him, Emmanuel
I'm working to teach my students to highlight the words they sing in order to really communicate the music. So, you will notice several words in italics above that I hope add to the overall meaning a little more.
Further, when I started looking at the words, the phrase "Holy One of Israel" stood out. I went to Scripture to find it in context and found these verses in Psalms 71:22-23, "I will praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, my God; I will sing praise to you with the lyre, Holy One of Israel. My lips will shout for joy with I sing praise to you - I whom you have delivered." I really think these verses put this song into perspective.
