Alleluia

In order to be good musicians we have to include all aspects of a song, including the understanding of the words.

Did you know that Alleluia is the Latin version of the Hebrew word Hallelujah?  Even more interesting is the root of the word Hallelujah.  As found in Psalm 148, Hallelujah is made up of two words.  Hallelu means praise in Hebrew and jah is the shortened version of the word Yahweh or Jehovah.  So, Hallelujah means to Praise the Lord.

In Revelation 19:7 we find the word Hallelujah followed by it's action words saying, "Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him glory."  Praise the Lord means to rejoice, to be glad and to give the glory to the Lord.

The students joked that this song would be easy to memorize, because it only has one word, "Alleluia."  May we sing it in praise of the Lord each time it is uttered.
