One Body
The verses about being one body with many parts came up in my Bible ready recently, and I always love those verses because of how they are fleshed out so well here at RVA. In today's reading I saw another example here at RVA which runs along a similar vein...
Ephesains 2
19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
vs19. When we come to RVA we come as foreigners from many places around the world. Although the verse is talking about entering God's family, RVA is an analogy for and an example of God's family. Since we live on a campus together, there is a strong sense of family in addition to "all" being part of God's family.
vs20. It's wonderful to think of those who have come through RVA before me, who too have been built on the corner stone of Christ, as we all have.
vs21. Just as we are the body with many parts, we are also each bricks put together to form a building. When I think of us as a the family of God, it also follows that we are build into a home, which is what RVA is. It's humbling to think of this home as a temple, but as I see God work in this place, it is true. With this in mind, I need to dwell on the fact that a temple is a holy place and needs to be treated as such. In turn, I need to follow God's commands while dwelling in this place, in His temple.
Further, a building is only walls and mortar until it's inhabited.
vs22. I am continually thankful that God's Spirit lives in this place, because I know He will direct me and guide me that I may not stumble, when I live in Him.
