My Jesus, I love Thee
- As I attempt to do a better job of focusing on musicianship with the choir, I plan to do devos on each of our songs. That way we can better express what we are singing. For "My Jesus, I Love Thee" I thought it would be fun to have each section summarize or paraphrase one of the verses in their own words. Here is my prep... I've underlined words are need emphasis and given definitions for others. I'll let you know what the kids come up with.
- Verse One: Sopranos Paraphrase
- My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine;
For Thee all the follies of sin I resign;
My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art Thou;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.
Definitions:
Follies = foolishness
Resign = give up
Redeemer = One who pays my debt.
Verse Two: Altos Paraphrase
- I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me,
And purchased my pardon on Calvary’s tree;
I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.
Pardon = forgiveness or release from sin
- Verse Three: Men Paraphrase
- In mansions of glory and endless delight,
I’ll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright;
I’ll sing with the glittering crown on my brow,
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.
