Your Support, My Salary, God's Servants
While heading to visit a couple on campus I ran into a Kenyan women. She greeted me and we began to chat. Eventually, she mentioned that she had cinnamon rolls for sale. Since I need a snack each week for Dorm Cover, I asked her back to my house so I could pay her. While we sat in my living room it was wonderful to listen to her talk about her years of work here at RVA and the neighbors she takes care of near her home. I was amazingly blessed when she shared how much RVA contributes to the community and what a help we are to those who come to work inside our gates. A few cinnamon rolls turned into an encounter of blessing on a Saturday afternoon.
A few days later my inside worker (Elizabeth) asked me for a loan. Her younger brother had recently gotten out of juvi. Due to the stigma, may people won't give him work. Elizabeth found a two year rehabilitation program that helps young people re-enter society. After my conversation with the cinnamon lady over the weekend, I was proud to be God's servant as part of the help RVA staff members provide for the community. My house helper will pay back her loan each month through the salary she makes working in my house, while helping her brother. Since you help to provide my salary, I thank you too for contributing to the community here in Kijabi.
