Year round school year

It's fascinating.  I've taught for 6 years and after having been a student for all the years before that, I got use to the schedule.  Three day weekends, two weeks for Christmas, snow through March, which is the longest month, a week for Spring break, and then three months of summer.

It has been strange teaching on a whole different schedule.  When we had 6 weeks off for Christmas, I had to try and figure out what I was suppose to do with that much time off.  Somehow, summer in the States is much more distracting with vacations, reunions, barbeques and holidays.  The time off at Christmas was good for projects, but also strange not to have a regular schedule.  Then, second term I realized there are no long weekends, like I was use to.  It makes sense, since the students wouldn't have anywhere to go for just three days.

As I look at teaching another term, I am getting my head around the fact that I won't have three months for summer.  It is different to be done and then go back after only a month.  I'm still wrapping my head around the fact that this is still the same school year.  We aren't starting over with a new year yet.

As far as changes go, this is an easy one, but as I said, it's fascinating.
