RVA Pinewood Derby

Every year since the 80s RVA has had a Pinewood Derby.  The past month the students have worked in the wood shop making their cars.  Some students work on their own, other work with a friend.  "Big Sis/Bros partner up with their Little Sis/Bros and Mom and Dads make cars with their kids.  The teachers sign up to help in the shop after school and by race day everyone on campus had taken part in some way or another.  My shift was Fridays after school.  I was assigned to the glue table, but Fridays turned out to be a slow day, which was good because I wouldn't have been much help anyway.  Two weeks till race day and Friday was finally busy with painting and adding wheels.  Then, with one day till the big race my Friday job was judging. Below you will find the different grades and their entries.  Judging Categories included Carpentry, Unique, and Engineering. You may be interested to learn that more girls made cars than boys, which was probably because of the creativity that goes into decorating a car.  We all look forward to seeing which cars make it down the track the fastest.

Below is my favorite design
The Go Dog is probably the most impressive
And this Dump Truck looked like plastic rather than wood.
