I don't wear jewelry here because inevitably someone asks be to give it to them.   Since I am leaving for a month and didn't bring any jewelry with me from the States I thought it would be fun to buy a few things that are typically Malagasy in solidarity with the people I work with. This bracelet is one such item.

Guys, girls, little kids and even babies can be seen all over Toliara with silver bracelets. So, if I want to talk about the people I work with using an article I wear this bracelet does just that.  I like the one I picked because it looks like the art all around town, and because it has a rustic beauty like the people of Toliara.  To an American the place they live in seems a little rough, and in truth their direct personalities can come across a little rough at times too, but they are some of the most hospitable people you will meet, and they are always looking to make you comfortable.

After narrowing down my purchase the salesman offered to put the bracelet on me in order to convince me to take it.  I was amazed at how gently he opened the metal ring and delicately fitted it on my wrist.  This act again pointed to the beauty of these people and the care they take of others. May they know God's care for them through Jesus.
