Where is Madagascar?
Off the southern coast of Africa, Madagascar in the Indian Ocean in the Southern Hemisphere. The people of Mada (when it's shortened) like to think of it as the Seventh Continent!

Where is Toliara?
Toliara is on the south western coast of Mada and it is a university town. I like to describe it like Florida but in Africa.
What do they believe in Mada?
55% of the country has a cultural belief that life after death is better and that their ancestors take care of them if they protect their dead bodies. 40% of the country are Reformed Christians. Mada is 5% Muslim as these people come in from the north. There is also a Mormon and Jehovah Witness presence.

What will you be doing?
Toliara has a small but growing church. They have a desire to grow the youth program. We will be partnering with them to create a curriculum to disciple the youth. It is also their hope to share this curriculum with the surrounding villages.
What are the people like?
They are Islanders, so imagine the people of Hawaii or the Philippines. They are musical people.
What language do they speak?
The people of Mada speak their own language; Malagasy. Many also speak French and some are learning English. Those in Toliara prefer to speak their own language, so we will spend the first year learning language from the people.
When do you leave?
The hope to leave with the second wave of our team on August 2.
