Featuring: Penny Wars

I've mentioned before that I teach music at a Classical School.  I was very excited this past Friday when they announced in chapel that we would be participating in Penny Wars to raise money for a well in Haiti through Samaritian's Purse.  I love it when students are passionate about helping the world and that's just what one of our students is doing.  She initiated the Penny Wars.  My former teaching post had done one before I got there and my high school raised money for projects like this after I left, so again you can see why I am excited.

For those of you who haven't done a Penny War pennies are points where dollars and silver are negative.  It's better to put the silver in other people's jars if you are competing, but the good news is everyone wins since all the money goes to dig a well.

Did you know, people walk an average of 1 mile just to get a drink in Haiti, yet a well is only $400 for a community.  I was thrilled when they announced that the students had raised $368 with one day left.  It's cool when little kids can make such a big difference.

This is a great idea for a class, after school program or an office.
Have you done a Penny Wars?  Tell me about it.

  1. We did some at the school where I used to work, all for India, Haiti, and the school. The students always got so excited. I think it's a fun idea!
